Healthcare Musician

Since 2010 I have worked as a Healthcare Musician as part of OPUS Music CIC.

We play live music in hospitals as a cultural offer for the benefit of patients visitors and staff. We use music to connect with people in clinical settings in order to enhance wellness.

Music in Healthcare Practice

As part of OPUS Music, I trained with the French company Musique et Santé in 2010 and have been dedicated to the practice of Music in Healthcare ever since. We work across a range of settings including paediatric wards, intensive care units and Neo natal units in hospitals across the East Midlands. We also play music  on wards with specialisms in stroke and dementia care. I feel very privileged to be able to play music for people  at very sensitive moments in their lives;  some of the very first or very last moments of someone's life; some moments that are very stressful or some that are joyful .

We are trained in the sensitivities inherent in providing music in these spaces and in the skills necessary to do this appropriately, while always putting first the needs of the people we play for .

I am also a trainer for OPUS Music CIC. We deliver courses in Music in Healthcare Practice for musicians looking to develop into this work. We also train healthcare professionals in the use of music as part of care practice.
